Sixty-five

Wren and I had a big night out. A friend made the effort to create the conditions for me to feel safe and comfortable, and we spent the evening at her house cooking, eating, and talking. Wren was restless at first as she’s not accustomed to being somewhere else, but she relaxed pretty quickly, and once she got permission to jump in this sling chair she found her spot to settle. I’m grateful for the consideration my friend showed, and for the shared meal and conversation.

I’m grateful for all the birthday wishes and blessings that flowed my way over the past couple of days, cards, calls, texts, and thoughtful gifts. One friend asked, “What is your dream for this year?” I said without hesitation, “To make it to my next birthday as well and happy as I am now.” Despite all the challenges of aging, I’m grateful I’ve made it to sixty-five.
