Humor

“Proof that you do have a brain, it’s not just empty space up there.” Thank Oz!

I’m grateful today for my own sense of humor and for that of other people. I’m grateful I was able to minimize the stress of going to the hospital for some tests, by meditating, breathing, and taking a little pill. I’m grateful that I set the intention this morning to really see and attend to each person I encounter today and acknowledge their value. It adds such a fresh dimension to going through the paces at the hospital. On the way in I passed a solemn looking woman leaving the cafeteria with her to-go lunch. “Hi!” I said, “got something yummy?” She stopped and happily told me about her chicken curry. In Admissions I complimented Debi on her earrings and learned how much she loves hummingbirds. Travis from X-ray and I laughed at walk this way as we had to walk very slowly to MRI to arrive at the right time.

And the MRI was delightful. Loud classical music, tucked into warm blankets, legs propped for sciatic comfort, the time flew by. Afterwards Dawn willingly showed me some of the images, and with the first one said, “Proof you have a brain!” Then she showed me what she shows kids, the Mickey Mouse in their head. But she had me figured out, and also showed me the creepy one that really made me laugh. The good news is, all the tests apparently show that I am head and shoulders normal. Whew. Doesn’t eliminate the symptoms, but gives a new direction for investigation and rules out some nasty alternatives. I’m grateful for the kind and capable care in the Delta Health system, and for the humor there if you’re open to it.
